The option to add filters to tabs and widgets within a dashboard has many benefits including customization, easy data exploration and the ability for you to interact with available data set in a way thats meaningful to you.
While there is no option to set Dashboard level filters at this time, tab level filters and widget level filters that are configured properly can great;y increase the usability of your dashboards.
Tab Level Filters
Tab level filters will impact all widgets on an individual tab unless a widget level filter is also being utilized.
Widget level filters will always override tab level filters.
There is a set list of available tab level filters ibut all my not be applicable to your specific tab or dashboard.
Available tab level filters include:
- Country
- Ad Account
- Selling Partner integration (Seller or Vendor Central data)
- Segment
- Brand
- Tracked Keyword (SOV)
- Label
To add a tab level filter:
- Click + Add Filter.
-
A drop-down menu will appear with all the metrics you can use to filter through your dashboards. You can also use the search function to find a specific filter.
-
Click on the metric you wish to apply, and specify the criteria to refine the data you wish to view.
- Click Apply. Your filter will appear at the tab level.
All tab level filters you have enabled will be shown in the filter bar. Use the X next to any filter to remove the filter completely or use the 'Clear All' button to clear all filters at once.
Tip: If you are creating a tab that you want to share with others and you want your audience to always make a selection you can set up a filter to be visible but not yet have a filter selection. To do this, click 'Add Filter', select the filter you want, make a filter selection, click 'apply'. Then click on the filter again, remove the selection, click 'apply' again. Now the filter option is in the filter bar but no filtering has been done yet. Use a Text widget to let your audience know they should use the filter to get started with the tab or dashboard.
Please Note!
If you have Dashboard-Only or Read-Only users, they will be able to see and interact with the tab-level filters you set. However, they will not have access to delete or add tab-level filters. This allows your audience of the dashboards to explore the data using the filters that you set to be visible to them without worrying about filters being added or deleted.
Widget Level Filters
Widget level filters will impact only the widget in which they are set up on.
Widget level filters will always override tab level filters.
Unlike Tab level filters where there is a static list of filters you can choose from and not all may apply to your data source used in the tab, available Widget level filters are dynamic in the senses that only the filters that apply to the data source used in your widget will be available to use. Example: You won't see an option to filter by Segment in a widget that has an Ad Account data source.
There are many widget level filters available based on the selected data source for the widget.
After you choose a data source you will be able to see all available widget level filters at the bottom of the widget building screen.
Any tab level filters that exist in the tab will be highlighted here as well as a toggle option to show more details on the widget itself about any additional widget level filters applied. This can be very helpful to communicate exactly what data is being shown to your audience.
