Reference lines are a great way to provide additional visual context, especially when comparing data to a threshold, benchmark, or goal. They help you or your audience quickly understand performance relative to the reference data point.
Essential Information
- Manually configurable, allowing you to set the color, value, and text label as desired
- Can be added to any Time Series widget you have created and are
- Available to set against any metric you have as part of the widget
- One reference line per widget
- Not available to use in the Stacked Area view
Creating a Reference Line
- Within the configuration modal for any Time Series widget, toggle on 'Reference Line'.
- Once toggled on, an option to configure the line will appear. Here you can:
- Click on the colored dot to set a custom color
- Use the dropdown to choose which metric the line will be based on
- Enter a value for the line in the next box
- Enter the text you want to appear as the label
- Finally, decide if you'd like the text value used for the label to appear on the trend line and check the box if so.
Ways to use reference lines:
- Visualize Goals or other thresholds in time series widgets
- Setting TACoS or ACOS targets for ad spend efficiency
- Market share benchmarks
- Budget caps
- Revenue milestones
- General performance baselines or targets
