Cloning or moving dashboards between orgs

Cloning or moving entire dashboards or specific widgets can be a huge time saver!

While you can't clone an entire dashboard between different orgs in one step, you can clone individual widgets quickly from one org to another with the copy + paste functionality which makes replicating an entire dashboard possible.

With the copy + paste functionality within dashboards, you can now:

  • Move widgets between child orgs
  • Move widgets that exist in a child org to a parent org with the goal of recreating an entire dashboard or to templatize the dashboard to be shared with other child orgs.

To do this:

  1. Open Cobalt and navigate to the dashboard where the widgets exist that you want to clone. If you are moving a dashboard from a child org to a parent org this will be the dashboard in your child org.
  2. Open Cobalt again in another tab or window. Make sure you are in the destination org where you want the new dashboard to live. If you are cloning a dashboard from a child org to a parent org this will be your parent org.
  3. If you have a preexisting dashboard where you'd like to move a widget open this dashboard in the second tab or the destination org.
  4. If you don't yet have a dashboard where you want to clone the widgets to create a new blank dashboard in the second tab or destination org.
  5. In the original org's dashboard, click on the widget you'd like to clone and use the keyboard shortcut 'Command + C' or 'Copy'.
  6. Navigate to the destination dashboard and use the keyboard shortcut 'Command + V' or 'Paste'.
  7. Repeat this process until you have copied and pasted all of the widgets from the original dashboard to the destination dashboard.
  8. All of the widgets configurations including filters will be copied to the new dashboard. This includes filters that may not be applicable to the destination dashboard. You'll want to take out any specific filters like Campaigns or Integrations if your goal is to create a template that can be shared with other child orgs.  You can leave other filters that would apply to all instances of this new dashboard like Metrics or Ad Type depending on your use case.
  9. Once you have set up the new dashboard you can use the permissions under the 'Share' action menu to share with the users you want to be able to use the new dashboard. To do this choose 'Customize' in the Sharing Settings menu and select those users who you'd like to be able to utilize this new dashboard template. These users can then create a copy to share with child orgs and make any further dashboard customizations needed.
